Mr. Mallinckrodt has had over thirty years experience practicing in all areas of Intellectual Property Law. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 1969 and worked as a transistor product support engineer at Teledyne Semiconductors. Mr. Mallinckrodt received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah College of Law in 1973, where he took additional coursework in chemistry and metallurgy. During law school he became registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and began working as the third generation in the Intellectual Property Law Firm of Mallinckrodt & Mallinckrodt where he continued to practice for over thirty years. Mr. Mallinckrodt joined Thorpe North & Western in 2005, adding a name well known for expertise in science and technology.
Mr. Mallinckrodt has successfully drafted and obtained numerous patents in all areas of technology including electronics, medical devices and technology, mechanical devices and machines, sporting goods, chemical and biochemical processes, mining, and food processing. In addition, he has obtained registrations for trademarks and service marks used on a wide variety of goods and services. Mr. Mallinckrodt also represents clients as both plaintiffs and defendants in patent, trademark, and copyright litigation. He is a member of both the State and Federal Courts and of the United States Courts of Appeal for the Federal and Tenth Circuits. He has served as a patent expert in several cases. Mr. Mallinckrodt has completed the University of Utah School of Communications one-year Conflict Resolution Certificate Program and serves as a mediator. Mr. Mallinckrodt has also been awarded the highest accolade of AV rating for attorneys by the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory.
