History
Mr. de Jonge earned his B.S. degree in Economics and Philosophy (magna cum laude) from Queens College in New York. Mr. de Jonge has the unusual distinction of having been concurrently enrolled in both a Masters degree program in tax accounting and in Law School-- receiving both his M.Pr.A. in Taxation and J.D. from the University of Utah.
While pursuing these degrees, he worked in the legal department of an insurance/financial services company doing tax, licensing, and mergers/acquisitions work. Mr. de Jonge’s academic interests also led him to a third graduate course of study in instrumentation physics.
Mr. de Jonge started his legal career in a commercial litigation practice and argued and won a case before the Utah Supreme Court. His desire to capitalize on his diverse academic background and interests led him to explore intellectual property law, and in 1998 he joined Thorpe North and Western.
At TNW, Mr. de Jonge’s practice focuses on trademark prosecution, intellectual property licensing, intellectual property litigation, intellectual property due diligence in mergers and acquisitions, and mechanical and business method patents. He also coordinates TNW’s domestic and international trademark prosecution group.
Mr. de Jonge has been a guest speaker at the University of Utah’s Graduate School of Business, speaking on intellectual property issues. He is a member of the Mountain West Venture Group, and a board member of the Wasatch Chapter of The Entrepreneurship Institute.
Mr. de Jonge is admitted to the Utah State Bar (member Intellectual Property Section) and is registered to practice before the U.S. District Court, District of Utah, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
